5 Facts you should know about

Centronuclear myopathy

fivefacts-light.svg

1

Centronuclear myopathy (CNM) is an umbrella term for a group of rare genetic muscle disorders

2

The most notable clinical manifestations of CNM are muscle weakness and associated disabilities

3

Symptoms are often present at birth in the severe forms, but may first develop later in life, although onset in adulthood is unusual

4

CNMs derive their name based on the central location of the muscle fiber (muscle cell) nucleus---cell nuclei are abnormally located in the center of muscle cells instead of their normal location at the periphery

5

While some patients with centronuclear myopathies remain ambulatory throughout their adult life, others may never crawl or walk and may require wheelchair use for mobility
